[dropcap letter=”O”]n August 25th, deep in the bowels of Downtown Los Angeles, hungry dwellers were treated to Dixie’s Deadzone Diners dinner where we took a step back in time where cell phones ceased to be and food was pure comfort to be enjoyed over conversation. The bonus? We got to experience it with ABC’s The Chew, Chef Carla Hall! Carla’s New York restaurant, “Southern Kitchen” epitomizes down home southern cooking with a healthy twist and of course, her approach to cooking which is, “Taste the love”! It was an honor meeting and talking with Carla and you can read all about what we chatted about in September so stay tuned …

Carla Hall Dixie Deadzone Diner

Chef and co-host of the ABC’s The Chew, Carla Hall, headlined an event August 25 put on by Dixie to launch Deadzone Diners in Los Angeles. Dixie Deadzone Diners are pop-up restaurants in actual cellular dead zones where people can connect over a meal without the distractions of cell phones. The event took place at The Vault, a former Federal Reserve bank vault in downtown Los Angeles, and featured signature dishes by Hall, including Granny’s Meat ‘n’ Greet Loaf, Selfie-Free Soup, Get To Talkin’ Taters, Dropped Call Carrots and No-Fi Pie.  Dixie took its Deadzone Diners to locations across Los Angeles with no cell service between August 26-28 and served up free food, meaningful conversation and an ambience that is distraction free. Dixie is also encouraging families everywhere to establish Deadzone Diners in their homes and is providing quick-and-easy recipes from Hall and fun tips on creative ways to ditch your phone during mealtime.
