ARCADIA, Calif. (December 14, 2015) – One of Los Angeles’ most timeless holiday traditions returns on Saturday, December 26 with Opening Day at Santa Anita Park and the return of the Guest Chef Series. The festive Opening Day event will kick off Santa Anita’s Winter Meet with a special menu by Executive Chef Steven Fretz of acclaimed LA restaurant The Church Key, known for its creative new American cuisine and craft cocktails.

Opening Day at Santa Anita Park has remained a Los Angeles tradition for more than 80 years. This year’s event will also include the return of Santa Anita’s Guest Chef Series in the Chandelier Room., featuring a catered menu by Executive Steve Fretz of The Church Key.

Chef Fretz’s special menu will include a range of creative small bites, including offerings like English Pea “Falafel” Sliders, Frog Hollow Pear Salad and Cauliflower “Tikka Masala.” Crowd pleasing savory items also on the menu include Hawaiian Ham, Angus Beef and “Hoagie” Sliders, Mary’s Chicken Cassoulet with Butter Beans, Smoked Bacon and Garlic Bread Crumbs; BBQ Style Smoked Baby Back Ribs with Crispy Garlic and Scallions; and Roast Top Round Beef with Roasted Garlic Beef Jus and Horseradish Cream.

Highlights Include Mint Julep Liquid Nitrogen “Odder Pops,” Brown Butter Donuts and English Pea “Falafel” Sliders

The decadent dessert menu includes Brown Butter Glazed Donuts with Cinnamon Caramel, Chocolate Mousse Bombes, Pumpkin Cheesecake with Pecan Shortbread Crust, Sticky Toffee Pudding with Grand Marnier Toffee Sauce, Orange Scented Shortbread Cookies, Gingersnap Spiced Cookies and Chocolate Chip Cookies with Hazelnut Toffee Sauce.

The Church Key’s mixologist, Devon Espinosa, will shake up creative cocktails, including Mint Julep Liquid Nitrogen “Odder Pops,” served up from The Church Key’s own antique Pam Am rolling serving carts.

Attendees at the Opening Day Guest Chef Series event will also enjoy live music by The Ryan Cross Trio and James Torme, who will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of “The Christmas Song,” written by his father, Mel Torme.

Tickets to the Guest Chef Series event with Chef Steven Fretz are $85 including admission to The Chandelier Room, a catered menu, live music, one glass of champagne, daily racing program, wagering tip sheet and live Thoroughbred racing.
