Innovative Results with Corey Beasley

“Before I introduce the first of what will no doubt be many life changing health and fitness articles produced by Corey Beasley, I have to first begin by telling you how he transformed my life, mindset, and physical fitness. I met Corey, he invited me to his gym, and soon after I began my workouts at Innovative Results. The minute I walked in, he threw me in. No baby steps, no coddling, just – let’s see what you can do! That was the best thing he could have ever done. Granted I’m no stranger to the gym so it wasn’t new to me BUT after the workout, we talked. He asked my what my fitness goals were, what I hoped to achieve in my life, etc. He believes that in order to understand your body and the results, you must first understand who you are. Visualizing where you want to be can mean the success or failure of your workouts (which translates into every aspect of life). So – I started working out 3 days a week and became addicted. I worked alongside MMA and UFC Champions and pushed myself to kick their butts in any challenge I could. Sometimes, I actually did! But the most valuable thing I took away from my workouts with Corey is this: Challenge yourself, never say you can’t, and if you “can’t” find another way until you say “I CAN”, treat your body well, focus, commit, and above all – find the balance in everything. The day I moved back to Los Angeles was one fraught with uncertainty because quite honestly, I hated having to stop my workouts at IR and to this day I crave getting back into that gym with the group of men and women that Corey trains. He is the best trainer and coach I have ever come across. Everything he teaches comes from a genuine place to want to see every person he works with succeed … He’s my Fitness Hero!” – Dawn Garcia, Editor

When people talk about getting in shape, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

Diets, gym memberships, TV gimmicks, supplements, cleanses, surgery?

These days the world is full of fitness solutions.  Online and offline, we are bombarded with the latest and greatest fitness solution.

While some of these products may be great, it has become almost impossible to sort through all of the noise.

The good news is that getting healthy really doesn’t need to be this complicated.

After 15 years in the fitness industry, I have seen just about everything and think I have boiled it down to the basics.

Health and fitness stem from three distinct areas:  Mindset, Movement and Recovery.

Mindset

While many are quick to point out the best exercise for this or that, it is really useless if your mind isn’t prepared to change.

Our thoughts rule our worlds, period.  Without the right attitude, support, and motivation, the odds of starting and sticking with a a fitness plan are non-existent.

Do you have a clear picture of what you want to accomplish by starting a fitness plan?

Do you have a deadline or date set for these goals?

Why are these results important to you?

What obstacles stand in your way?

What are you willing to sacrifice to accomplish these goals?

Who is going to help you and hold you accountable?

Movement

Yoga, strongman, Pilates, spin, aerobics classes, power lifting, boot camps, personal training, hiking, climbing, bicycling, running, walking, swimming, bodybuilding and just about every other sport/activity that makes you sweat and breath a little involve movement.

We are designed to move, period.

Unfortunately, the majority of us spend our days at a desk, in the car, or on the couch.  This sedentary lifestyle makes us stiff, weak and unhealthy.

If you are just starting out, don’t get distracted or overwhelmed by all the options out there.  Go for a walk, ride a bike, swim, surf or do something that gets you moving.  Once you find a few activities that you enjoy, stick with them for a few weeks and gather some momentum.

This new found activity level will improve your energy levels, your attitude and, who knows, you might even enjoy it!

Recovery

Everyone is busy.  Work, school, kids, finances, relationships and a ton of other activities/responsibilities fill our schedule every week.

In order to look, feel and perform at our best, we have to recover from all of stress (physical and mental).

Two of the best ways to recover is to make sure we eat more quality foods and get adequate rest.

Good food helps fuel our body and mind, while sleep is nature’s way of repairing and recovering.

From my experience the easiest way to eat better, is to simply keep a food log.  We all know what is good and bad.  Keeping a food log makes us become conscious of the decisions we make on a daily basis.

Once a client commits to writing in their journal and recording their food intake, then we can get into the specifics.

Rest, sleep and other recovery techniques simply need to be planned, just like any other activity.  Most of us tend to pack our days with too much stuff, have no plan and react to each days events.  By planning a little more intently, we can better navigate our schedule, plan down time and make sure that we aren’t running ourselves into the ground.  Maybe its a walk at lunch, a cat nap, a massage, dinner with friends or something similar.

Bottom line, with all of the things life throws at us, we can’t forget to take care of ourselves along the way.

So there you have it.  A simple outline for optimal health.

Get your mind right, get your body moving and take care of yourself along the way.

Simple, right?

Over the next few weeks, I will break down each of these areas and explore more details that will help you live a healthier, happier, more productive life.
